Gates and entrances

A gate must suit the opening, the way it will be used and the character of the entrance. Proportion, ground clearance, hanging geometry, post foundations, ironmongery and future maintenance are considered before manufacture.

Specified for the job.

These are typical examples rather than a fixed catalogue. Sizes, timber sections, details and components are agreed before manufacture.

Design considerations

The location affects the construction.

Exposure, ground conditions, access and intended use influence the material and detailing. These points are resolved before timber is ordered.

  1. 01Clear opening, finished ground levels and swing direction
  2. 02Manual, frequently operated or automation-ready use
  3. 03Vehicle, pedestrian, livestock and access-control requirements
  4. 04Post foundations, drainage, ironmongery and site exposure
  5. 05Replacement of an existing gate or integration with new works

Materials & construction

The material must suit the work.

British-grown oak is preferred where it is suitable, available and commercially practical. European oak or an appropriate durable softwood may be proposed where the use, specification or budget calls for a different material. The quotation states the proposed timber, origin, fixings and finish.

Traditional joinery is used where it provides the right result, alongside accurate modern machining and production control. Joints, fixings and replaceable components are selected for outdoor exposure, inspection and future repair.

Quoted to specification

Price depends on the timber, dimensions, quantity, components, finish, delivery, access and installation. Albion quotes each requirement against a written scope.
